Kindergarten
Welcome to Middle School Literature
My name is Tammy Flippo
and I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Literature; 7th grade Pre-Algebra; and 7th
grade Religion.
6th Grade Literature
We use the Harcourt "Trophies"
(Timeless Treasures) textbook literature series. Our current
thematic unit of study is titled "Personal Best" in which students
read about characters who overcome personal obstacles and resolve controversies
creatively. With this unit, students discover the rewards that come from
looking for and bringing out the best in others and in themselves.
In addition to the textbook, we read short novels of both classical and modern
literature. All students will prepare a "scrapbook" of the
novel they are reading.
7th and 8th Grade Literature
We use Holt "Elements of
Literature," First Course for Seventh Grade and Second Course for Eighth
Grade. For 7-Lit, we are currently studying forms of prose found in
both fictional and nonfictional writing. For 8-Lit, we are reading
short stories focusing learning the elements of plot and setting. In
addition to the textbook, we read short novels of both classical and modern
literature. All students will prepare a "scrapbook" of the
novel they are reading.
During the first week of December, all middle
school Literature classes will visit Theatre Memphis to see a performance
of "A Christmas Carol," followed by participation in a
community service project.
