Welcome to Middle School Religion

Dean Ray: 6th grade Religion
We use the We Believe religion series. This year we will focus on the Old Testament and teachings of the Catholic Church doctrine. Learning how to be Disciples of Christ in every aspect of our day to day activities is the central theme of this year. We do this by studying the relationships Adam and Eve, Moses, Abraham, and the prophets of the Old Testament had with God. This theme is enhanced with the integration of our studies of ancient civilizations in social studies. We look closely at all of the major religions of the world and how they began.
Tammy Flippo: 7th grade Religion
For this grade level we study The Creed and The New Testament, both published by Sadlier Faith and Witness, 1998.
The goals for the study of "The Creed" (per the publisher) are:
- To invite youth to open their hearts and minds to the truths of God’s revelation
- To develop persons of faith whose lives reflect the message and values of Christ.
- To examine more closely the teachings of our Catholic faith
- To explore more fully the depths of the gift of faith and the meaning of the gospel
The goals for the study of "The New Testament" (per the publisher) are:
- To study the New Testament as the announcement of the good news of our salvation in Jesus Christ
- To develop persons of faith in him.
- To help youth develop a solid Catholic understanding of Scripture
- To help youth become truly people of the word who bring the good news of Christ to the world.
My instructional methodologies for all courses that I teach include supplementing textbook lessons with hands-on individual and small group projects to enrich and personalize the learning objectives.
