2010 – 2011 Personnel
Welcome to Social Studies
Welcome
to middle school! My name is Dean Ray and I am the Social Studies teacher.
My goal
is to create an atmosphere of excitement in learning through hands-on
activities and the integration of technology in my lessons. Above all else, the primary focus of our
day is spiritual growth through Jesus Christ.
I teach
five middle school subjects. I am the 6th Grade Homeroom teacher, I
teach 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Social studies, 6th
Grade religion, and 6th grade Math.
6th grade social studies – This is a study of world
history and ancient civilizations. The social studies curriculum
integrates nicely with the 6th grade Old Testament religion topics. We explore the Stone Age, ancient
civilizations, and learn how the different religions of the world
developed.
7th grade social studies- World Geography and Tennessee
History are the curriculum for 7th grade social studies. We plan to take
a field trip to Nashville
to visit the Belle Meade Plantation, The Hermitage, and the state capital in
the spring.
8th grade social studies-This is the year we study
American History and go more in-depth with our look at our country’s
system of government. We begin with the creation of the Declaration
of Independence and formation of our government. The primary focus is from the period of
Reconstruction through the Vietnam War era.
Field
trips – We will take 2 educational field trips that will enhance the
curriculum, and one service oriented field trip. Last year we went to the
Civil War reenactment of The Battle of Collierville. We plan to attend a
production at Theatre Memphis in December.
